How to use this site:
There are 3 ways to find the book you are looking for, Quick search, Advanced Search, and the Catalogues.
In each case, click on the book's Stock number to compile a list of books you are interested in. When your list is complete, add your contact details and send it to us.
Quick search
This will search for the word or phrase you input across our entire on-line catalogue so a search for "jones" will find all entries where that name appears in Author, Title, Publisher or Description fields. The quick search only lists the first ten entries found. If your search is for a common word it will be better to use the Advanced search and specify additional criteria.
Advanced search
The Advanced Search option allows you to search on very specific criteria:Author, Title, Publisher, Description, minimum and maximum price,
Catalogues
The Catalogues page lists all our specialist catalogues. Note that some of these are very large files, if your internet connection is too slow we can send you a printed copy by post.
Information request
Once you have found a book you are interested in click on the stock number. This will bring up an enquiry form showing the book title and stock number.
Either add your contact details to the form and send it or continue browsing and add more books to the enquiry form. The form also allows you to delete books from your information request. Try it here: 12345
Can't find what you want?
Currently the web site only lists about one fifth of our entire stock. Inputting details of 40,000 books is a rather demanding task! Please contact us if you can't find what you want, we may have a copy in the shop.
Buying from Hawkridge
When you contact us with a book request we will advise of the total cost. Books are despatched promptly on receipt of payment which may be made by credit card (American Express, VISA, Delta or Mastercard), PayPal or cheque. If books are found not to match our description, they may be returned within seven days of receipt. Overseas customers should pay in sterling if possible.
Postage
There is such a wide range of variation in book sizes and weights that we don't provide shipping costs here. When you enquire about an order we will package the book(s) and let you know the total cost. We will phone or email your delivery options, this allows us to keep the final cost to you low as we just aim to recover our shipping costs.
Problems?
Parts of this website use two technologies called Cookies and Javascript. Both are in widespread use and many web sites will not function correctly without Cookies and Javascript. Occasionally people have one or both disabled, in that case you may experience some difficulties.
We use Cookies to store the stock numbers and titles of books you are interested in on your computer. That means if you leave the website and return later it will "remember" those books to save you searching again. You can view the cookie for this site (if there is one) by clicking HERE. (Note that the contents of cookies are not designed to be human-readable but it is often possible to get an idea of their purpose/content).
Javascript is used to write small computer programs that run within a web page. They are used here for several purposes, for example if you enter a word shorter that 4 letters in the Quick Search box a Javascript program alerts you that we need 4 or more letters to get meaningful results from the search.
If you move the mouse over here you will see a colour change if Javascript is working.
